The Net Zero Innovation Fund for Suffolk

The ‘Net Zero Innovation Fund’ will provide grants for businesses to innovate solutions that will drive the county towards its net zero target.

It is hoped that successful applicants will act as a beacon for other organisations in Suffolk and beyond to follow, and help to secure Suffolk’s standing as a pathfinder for net zero innovation.

The Carbon Charter, Suffolk’s hub for sustainable business, is coordinating the fund on behalf of Suffolk’s public sector and partner organisations Suffolk-wide.

The fund coincides with the publishing of a comprehensive progress review of Suffolk’s Climate Emergency Plan, which sets out the shared ambition across Suffolk’s public sector to become a net zero county by 2030.

Championing the role of businesses on the road to net zero has been a priority of the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan since its implementation in 2021, and initiatives have been backed by Suffolk’s public sector leaders every step of the way. Starting from Monday 18th September 2023, businesses are invited to express their interest in the Suffolk Net Zero Innovation Fund, with a more detailed application process to follow.

Funding will be awarded to businesses with a concept that…
  • Shows a clear link to net zero transition
  • Is scalable
  • Has potential for data collection and evaluation
  • Can be evidenced as an original idea
  • Can deliver outcomes by the end of 2024

To be eligible for a grant, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  1. The business must be based in Suffolk
  2. The grant cannot fund projects retrospectively, or works already in progress
  3. The business must agree to the match funding requirements. Businesses must provide evidence, upon request, that they can produce the required results
  4. The grant will cover a maximum of total project costs, up to the maximum value of the grant. The grant will be paid in arrears, on proof of payment and the production of any relevant invoices
  5. The business cannot be in administration, insolvent or in a situation where a strike-off has been made.
