Manufacturers inspire future generations with factory visits

Norfolk and Suffolk Manufacturers joined forces to open their factories doors and welcome local schools, colleges and communities for an up-close and personal look into the producers and products made in the region and wider UK.

On the 28th September, NAAME members rallied together to open their factory doors are part of Make UK’s National Manufacturing Day (NMD). The event was instrumented by trade body, Make UK and the day encourages factories across the UK to open their doors to future makers, schools, colleges and local residents to display the exciting reality of modern manufacturing and celebrate the sector. The day proved an exciting way to engage with local communities, identify and encourage their future skills pipelines and dispel some of the myths of manufacturing by highlighting the above-average wages and opportunities to “learn as you earn”.

The key to success for our local manufacturers was offering small groups of students a guided tour through the manufacturing facilities enabling them to get up close and personal with the processes, products and emerging technology.

In order to make the event possible across Norfolk and Suffolk, NAAME partnered with local schools, the New Anglia Careers Hub, Breckland Council and Industry. In total, 17 manufacturers opened their doors across the region and over 400 students, teaching staff and local communities got a glimpse of the best of our manufacturing sector.

A special thanks to Warren, Baxter Healthcare, Boniface, Peerless Plastics & Coatings, Timber Wolf, HF Bond, Eastern Hardware, PCE Automation, Flakt Group PIL Membrane, Crane Garden Buildings, Delta Fire, Redpack Packaging Machinery, Thurne-Middleby, Lotus, Lintott Control Systems and West Suffolk College for opening their doors and we all look forward to making the event an even bigger next year.
