ESG in manufacturing takes centre stage at NAAME Conference

Manufacturing and engineering firms are to be encouraged to consider their impact on society and the environment at a conference at Adastral Park in Suffolk.

New Anglia Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (NAAME), the sector group devoted to promoting and supporting the region’s manufacturing and engineering businesses, has placed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) at the heart of its annual conference being held on 9 February.

Accomplished speakers from BT, Lotus, Institute of Directors, Make UK, and other organisations will highlight the importance of sustainability, and how this can work operationally, as well as contribute to growth. Delegates will hear a pre-recorded address from Nusrat Ghani MP, Minister of State at the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, whose responsibilities include industrial decarbonisation and advanced manufacturing.

The event will also include insightful thought leadership speeches, engaging panel discussions, and practical workshops. Attendance will help delegates in the implementation and development of aligned plans, policies, and products to help the sector grow and decarbonise.

Alongside an array of exhibitors, this thought-provoking event provides opportunities to network with fellow industry professionals, share best practices and connect regional supply chains. The new Lotus Emira will be showcased and to top off the event delegates will be offered an exclusive tour of the new Digital Industries facilities at the recently launched BT’s Innovation Showcases – only launched in December 2022.

There will also be a chance to find out more about funding and programmes run by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to support your business on the road to net zero.

Chris Starkie, the LEP’s Chief Executive, said: “An ESG strategy will be a key asset for our SME businesses and wider communities seeking to win new contracts through large infrastructure projects such as Sizewell C, as well as contributing to Norfolk and Suffolk’s net zero targets.

“We must ensure that we develop industry sectors and ecosystems which work with the environment and communities and consider the impact of their whole supply chains. All our key sectors must play their part if our region is to fulfil its clean growth ambition.”

Katy Davies, Managing Director of CamdenBoss & NAAME Deputy Chair, commented: “ESG is a hot topic right now, and the key consideration for all businesses needs to be how it becomes an intrinsic part of what they are and do, rather than being dismissed as a fad or trend. Many businesses don’t know where to start, but doing something, no matter how small, is better than doing nothing.

“I’m excited to welcome the East of England manufacturing and engineering community, along with my NAAME colleagues on the day, to explore how collectively we can support one another to overcome challenges as the sector transitions to Net Zero.”
