Clusters showcase Tech and Space Exploration at Science Festival

Connected Innovation, NAAME, and Space East Showcases Cutting-Edge Technology and Space Exploration as part of Norwich Science Festival

The Connected Innovation, NAAME, and Space East teams exhibited at the Tech, Innovation, and Engineering Day (Monday 19th February) at the Norwich Science Festival. Armed with ANT robots and VR headsets, they offered attendees an immersive experience that transported them from controlling a robot into outer space.

The turnout at The Forum in Norwich was nothing short of fantastic, with curious minds, young and old, coming along to see the latest advancements in science and engineering. From children to adults, there was something for everyone.

The star attractions were undoubtedly the ANT robots and VR headsets, which captivated audiences with their ability to seamlessly blend the digital and physical worlds. Circa 800 delegates visited the stands throughout the day.

The ANT robots, developed by the Productivity East team at the University of East Anglia (UEA), kept the crowd entertained with games of ‘robot football’ and the occasional ‘robot wars’. The team were supported by UEA Engineering student Reece who was fantastic on the day keeping the eager crowds entertained and captivated as they looked to control their own robot.

Meanwhile, the VR headsets provided by Space East offered a truly out-of-this-world experience, transporting users on a virtual journey to space. From breathtaking views of Earth from orbit to immersive interactions with satellites, participants were able to explore space like never before whilst learning all about satellite technology, data and applications.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the Norwich Science Festival and to share our passion for entrepreneurship, innovation and science,” said James Allen, Programme Manager of Connected Innovation. “Events like these are crucial for inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators, and we’re proud to play our part in driving excitement and sparking curiosity”.

Space East Cluster Development Manager, Stuart Catchpole said ‘Satellite technology enriches our lives everyday without us realising it. The science festival has given us a platform to teach students all about satellites, how they are deployed in space, how they operate, the globally important data they generate and its applications in a fully engaging and immersive way using virtual reality technology.’

The Tech, Innovation, and Engineering Day proved to be a resounding success on Monday, with huge numbers of children and adults pouring into The Forum and leaving with a “wow” and smiles on their faces!
